Target Bridal Registry: Etiquette for Creating a Great Bridal Registry at Target

Whether you're creating a Target Bridal Registry or a fancy registry at Nordstrom's or Waterford Crystal, the same rules apply. You need a variety of gifts, a range of price points and some standard items that are an absolute must.

To learn more about what you should and shouldn't be putting on your Target bridal registry, along with some simple registry etiquette rules and answers to your frequently asked questions, keep reading.

How do I know how much to register for?

Typically, you should sign up for more than you think you should. Yes, it will feel presumptuous, but you'll often find that as the wedding approaches, guests will appreciate the extra choices and options. Most etiquette experts recommend calculating the number of gifts based on the number of guests at both your wedding and shower (or showers).

Ideally, your only limiting factor should be to only pick items that you know you will use, love and have the room for.

Should I just register at Target?

Having one registry is a way of keeping it simple, but most brides like to have two or three – a high-end retailer, an inexpensive retailer (that's Target) and a wild-card, like a charity. It gives you and your guests more options.

Can I have too many inexpensive items on my registry?

Yes. Ideally, you want to provide guests with a mix and an equal number of midrange and lower-cost items, and then a smaller group of big ticket items. Remember, your loving grandmother isn't going to want to give you a $19.99 “heirloom” mixing bowl.

When you do choose inexpensive items for your registry, take care with what you choose. Your friends on a budget will want to pick something that they feel you will really care about.

When should I send a thank you note?

You can start sending your thank you notes as soon as you start receiving your gifts. If you're picking your gifts up from Target after guests ordered them online, Target will provide you with an itemized receipt that includes the giver's name and address.

Etiquette dictates that you have up to a year to finish writing and sending your thank you notes, but ideally you should do it sooner rather than later.

How do I tell guests that I'm registered at Target?

The most important rule is to never include the information with your paper invitations – it's considered to be in poor taste. Instead, you can include a link to your Target bridal registry on your wedding website or you can simply rely on your maid-of-honor, best man and parents to spread the word.
